Job Description

Job Title: Controller

Location: Scarborough, ME

Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Salary Range: $130,000 – $140,000 annually

Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Controller to lead our financial operations and oversee the accounting functions of both our construction and real estate portfolios. Reporting directly to the President, this position plays a strategic role in guiding financial planning, compliance, reporting, and operational oversight. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, construction industry experience, and a sharp analytical mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity across business units
  • Oversee project-based job costing and related financial tracking
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry standards
  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and regulatory filings
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff, promoting efficiency and accuracy
  • Review and improve internal financial systems and controls
  • Manage banking, treasury, and insurance relationships
  • Maintain vendor and client financial communications, including invoicing and collections
  • Prepare financial packages for bonding and insurance partners

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA, CMA, or CCIFP certification preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Construction industry experience is required
  • Strong knowledge of accounting systems (experience with Sage 100 Contractor preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
