Protect WA State Legacy Forests Campaign

Washington State’s older state-owned forests store carbon at remarkable rates. These older forests are also being clear-cut at alarming rates under current state policy—up to 5,000 more acres are slated to be cut in the next year. This aggressive rate of logging worsens climate change, landslides and flooding. To meet our 2050 climate goals, we must create new tools and approaches including the state’s new Natural Climate Solutions Account to 1) immediately protect these carbon dense forests and 2) purchase replacement lands for timber production to maintain rural jobs and to protect our forests from conversion and development.

While the Campaign Organizer will be working closely with consultants and coalition members on the campaign, they will be working for CRF to support our objective of protecting legacy forests.

About The Position

Our Campaign Organizer will coordinate and oversee many aspects of the campaign, working with the campaign committee, volunteers around WA State, the CRF team and campaign consultants.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize citizens to take action
  • Write emails and help manage the website
  • Create and manage the campaign schedule and potential community outreach
  • Coordinate and support campaign events
  • Draft and schedule campaign emails
  • Collaborate with coalition partners to mobilize their networks
  • Run an aggressive outreach plan including phone banking to meet our campaign goals
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers
  • Generate progress reports of number of people contacted
  • Communicate professionally and in a timely manner with supporters, allies, and consultants
  • Other duties as assigned

Timeline:  Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. We have the intention of hiring by February 1st 2023. This position will run through late May 2023. There is the possibility to continue employment in a similar position with the Center for Responsible Forestry beyond the May end date.

Requirements

  • Experience working on political, grassroots, and/or community campaigns
  • Self-motivated and strategic, with experience handling multiple priorities and maintaining attention to detail in a high-stakes, deadline-driven environment
  • High standards for honesty, integrity, and follow-through

  • Proficient at working in a collaborative team environment
  • Basic proficiency with Google Sheets or Excel

Why work here

The goal of the Center for Responsible Forestry is to permanently conserve mature, structurally complex “legacy forests” on state forest lands managed by
the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). We define legacy forests as mature forests that were typically logged prior to World War II and left to grow back on their own (naturally regenerated).

Join a passionate team of people who are committed to getting legacy forests protected because of their importance to biodiversity and climate change!
