Position Overview:

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice is looking for a candidate to serve as an Administrative Assistant II to work at IYC Lincoln Monarch. This position performs a variety of highly responsible duties of a sensitive nature. The incumbent serves as liaison for the facility in dealing with State agencies, private administrations and general public. The ideal candidate will relieve the Superintendent of routine tasks and appearances. The incumbent will also compile reports and correspondence, often of a sensitive nature. We are looking for an energetic candidate looking to be an integral part of the IYC Lincoln Monarch Team. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply. Essential Functions:

  • Serves as a confidential administrative support.
  • Serves as the Employee Review Hearing Coordinator.
  • Serves as Employee Review Hearing Officer.
  • Directs the functions of affirmative action, affirmative attendance, facility wide training and staff development.
  • Delivers information and speeches on facility activities to interest groups.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with course in public or business administration.
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in a large public or private organization.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance):

  • Prefers at least one (1) year experience implementing an employee discipline process at a public or private organization.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year experience working in a confidential setting.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year professional experience communicating and interacting with management, representatives of government and private industry and the public.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience working in labor relations such as: policies and procedures in a youth center, security setting, investigations, use of force, and timekeeping.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year experience working in a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience generating and preparing reports.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience scheduling appointments and meetings utilizing Microsoft Outlook or similar software product.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year experience developing and conducting employee training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Requires ability to travel.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.

Over 900 staff members from across various departments—security, programming, education, mental health, and more—collaborate with the understanding that youth are physically, emotionally, and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency, engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois’ communities.
