Position Overview: 

The Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission is searching for an Administrative Assistant to add to the team that performs a variety of highly responsible administrative and clerical tasks to support the operations of the Self-Insurance Department. The role involves processing company workloads using the Self-Insurance Plus system, assisting with the day-to-day functions of the self-insurance program, and serving as a key point of contact for stakeholders including employers and insurance professionals. This position requires a high level of confidentiality, strong organizational skills, and excellent communication abilities. Essential Functions

  • Manages assigned company workload utilizing Self-Insurance Plus system to administer the self-insurance program.  
  • Uses the assigned systems to perform job duties.  
  • Assists in the operation of the self-insurance program.  
  • Communicates with stakeholders.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned, ensuring alignment with the responsibilities outlined above.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.
  • Requires one year of professional experience in a public or private organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers undergraduate degree in Accounting.  
  • Prefers 2 years of experience working with Microsoft Office programs.  

About the Agency

Workers' compensation is a no-fault system of benefits paid by employers to workers who experience work-related injuries or diseases. The Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission resolves disputes between employees and employers regarding work-related injuries and illnesses. A case is first tried by an arbitrator, whose decision may be reviewed by a panel of three commissioners. Cases may then be appealed to the circuit court, Appellate Court, and Illinois Supreme Court. Like most court systems, the vast majority of disputes are resolved by settlement.
